New probe team for Jisha murder case

The first Cabinet meeting of the newly sworn-in LDF government has decided to reconstitute the probe team for Jisha’s murder in which the Dalit law student was raped and murdered at Perumbavoor on April 28.

Briefing on Cabinet decisions on Wednesday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the ADGP Sandhya will lead the new probe team. The team would also look into various lapses reported in connection with the previous probe done by the local police.

The Ernakulam district collector has been directed to take steps to complete the construction of a new house for the victim’s family. The mother of Jisha will be given a monthly pension of Rs 5,000 and her sister would be provided a government job. On other decisions, CM said all the departments have been directed to report the existing vacancies in the Public Service Commission. The Chief Secretary will monitor the progress in this regard on a day to day basis, Vijayan added.

Stating that stern action will be taken for the control of price hike of essential commodities and strengthening of public distribution system, he said the budget allocation will be doubled for the Civil Supplies Corporation to arrest the price hike. The next budget would have the sufficient amount against the present allocation of Rs 75 crore in this regard, he added.

Assuring that pending amount of various welfare pensions would be disbursed immediately, he said minimum pension would be increased to Rs 1,000.
