The key suspect, Amiyur Ul Islam, reportedly confessed to the  police that he had carried out the crime on April 28.  The DNA samples, collected from the crime scene, had also matched with that of the prime suspect, according to sources.

However, the police is yet to make an official announcement in this regard. Thirty-year-old Jisha  was found in a pool of blood in her residence by her mother. A post-mortem report had revealed that there were at least 38 injuries, including bite marks,  on Jisha's body.

The incident that took place during the Assembly elections had triggered a mass outrage in Kerala, with the then Opposition Marxist-led Left Democratic Front(LDF) alleging the failure of the Oommen Chandy Government to nab the real culprit.  As soon as the LDF government came to power, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan constituted a special investigation team headed by ADGP B Sandhya to probe the case.  The new government also replaced police chief T P Senkumar with  Odisha-born IPS officer Loknath Behera, who had the experience of working with the Central Bureau of Investigation and the National Investigation Agency.

Asked whether the accused in the Jisha murder case had been arrested, the Chief Minister told newspersons that an official announcement would be made today itself. ''It is an eagerly awaited news for Keralites,'' he said, adding that the suspect was under police observation since yesterday.

According to sources, the main clue to the crime came from a footwear recovered from the scene of crime.  The owner of a footwear store, from where the suspect had purchased the slippers, had also identified him.
