Chairing an-party meeting on the month-long unrest in Kashmir, Modi ruled out any compromise on the unity and integrity of India, saying that the solution to the vexed Kashmir problem would have to be within the Constitution. “Today when we talk about Jammu and Kashmir, then we must talk about four areas of the state: Jammu, Kashmir valley, Ladakh and PoK ,” he said, adding, “We must engage all stakeholders in Kashmir and PoK.” Modi was emphatic and said, “We must talk to PoK citizens living in other places when we speak to stakeholders. PoK is also a part of India.”
Like every Indian, he said he too was deeply pained by the recent incidents that had taken place in Srinagar. However, he praised the Mehbooba Mufti government for doing a good job in dealing with the problems of the state. Blaming Pakistan for sponsoring terrorism in the state, Modi said the Ministry of External Affairs should now try to contact the inhabitants of PoK wherever they were residing and get information about their plight and inform the world. Telling the Parliamentarians that the Centre was committed to a stable and peaceful solution to the Kashmir issue as also to the welfare of J&K people, Modi said, “Every Kashmiri wants peace and has faith in democracy.”
Referring to the Rs 80,000 crore package, he said the Government will try and address all sections of Kashmir within the ambit of the Constitution. Modi also said he expected all political parties to give constructive suggestion to the Government to fight terrorism and insurgency there and hoped that this would usher in lasting peace and normalcy in the trouble-torn state.
