Mulayam rakes up Bofors controversy

Yadav made this claim during a programme in the state capital on Wednesday saying that he personally went to border areas in Kashmir and saw Bofors guns working perfectly. “Then I decided to go slow on Bofors files and ensured that no politician got entangled in litigation.” “When it comes to Bofors, people talked ill of Rajiv Gandhi but when I, as Defence Minister saw Bofors working, I felt that he had done something good. Bofors guns were superb. So, I decided that no politicians will be penalised for Bofors,” Yadav reportedly said.

Speaking at a function at Ram Manohar Lohia Law University, Yadav said Kashmir’s problem was dangerous for India. “If we (India) lose Kashmir, then this will be India’s biggest problem which will leave the country shocked. In 1990, a similar situation had come to me and I had resolved the issues in Kashmir within three days,” he further claimed. 

Yadav further said that on his advice Union home minister Rajnath Singh had called an all-party meeting in New Delhi over the Kashmir issue where various suggestions to resolve the problems in Kashmir were discussed. The former Defence Minister said Pakistan was no potential threat for India. “If they drop one bomb, we will drop four and entire Pakistan will disappear,” he said, adding that India’s giving of Tibet to China was a blunder.
