Congress wooing Sidhu after talks with Aam Aadmi Party hits roadblock
In what could be seen as an attempt by the Congress to meet the challenge posed by Aam Aadmi Party’s rising popularity in Punjab, especially among the youth of the state, the party is wooing BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu to its ranks to boost its chances in the state Assembly polls, scheduled early next year, sources said.

Though the party has also been making an effort to entreat Sidhu ever since he resigned from his Rajya Sabha seat last month over his disenchantment over not being allowed any role in Punjab, they have renewed their move after the talks between the AAP and the cricketer-turned politician hit a logjam. Ever since Sidhu resigned from his Rajya Sabha seat, political observers said he has been in talks with the AAP to join the party ahead of the Assembly elections in the state.
However, talks between the former Rajya Sabha MP and the party over the past few weeks have failed to make a headway, sources said. Though there was a buzz that Sidhu would join the AAP on August 15, sources said talks between Sidhu and AAP have hit a roadblock over his demand that he be made the Chief Ministerial candidate of the AAP in the Punjab Assembly polls, scheduled early next year. He has also demanded that his wife and BJP MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu be fielded by the AAP as one of its candidates in the Punjab polls.
Though the AAP has denied the reports that Sidhu set pre-conditions for joining the party, saying that the cricketer-turned politician needs more time, sources said the talks between Sidhu and AAP are on the verge of a breakdown. Given the developments, the Congress, which has been wooing Sidhu since he resigned from his Rajya Sabha seat, has renewed its efforts.
