Once the issues are resolved, Foxconn plans to immediately launch its project in Maharashtra which has been delayed “but is not going anywhere…” The clarification came two days after opposition from various quarters.
Last year, the deal was signed on August 8, with the project touted to generate employment for 50,000 people.
Political parties have been opposing it because the ‘Make in Maharashtra’ initiative is a non-starter as the Foxconn project had not taken off. Their allegation is despite foreign tours, no real investments had come to Maharashtra.
NCP’s state spokesperson Nawab Malik said most MoUs signed during the aforementioned initiative of the BJP-Shiv Sena combine are “fake” as the government did not declare with whom these were inked.
Though officials remain tight-lipped, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co, Taipei, or Foxconn, the world’s biggest contract manufacturer of electronics, has been allotted around 1,500 acres of land. It was in two minds as it was not getting enough customers to justify the huge investments. The Chief Minister said the Centre is also examining certain conditions laid down by Foxconn, which has companies such as Apple, Blackberry and Xiaomi as its clients.
