Disposing a PIL by KP Manjunath of Kodagu against celebrating Tipu birth anniversary in Kodagu District, a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice R B Budihal directed him to give a memorandum to the Chief Secretary and directed the State government to take suitable decision after providing opportunities to the persons concerned by November 8. Justice Mukherjee questioned the State Government whether Tipu was a freedom fighter? why his birth Anniversary was celebrated and what is the benefit from it.

In his reply Advocate General Madusudan said that it is a Government Policy and need more time to explain. Advocate Sajjan Poovaiah, appearing for the petitioner, said that it is not correct on the part of the State government to pose Tipu as freedom fighter, as he had killed many Kodavas and it is not correct to celebrate his Birth anniversary.
