Speaking to DT Next, Dr S Balachandran, director, Area Cyclone Waning Centre, RMC, said, “Southwest monsoon is still active over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The low pressure formed on Friday over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Coastal areas of Odisha now lies over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining areas of South Coastal Odisha and West Central Bay of Bengal.”
According to weathermen, things have started to pick up on the West Coast already with some of the places starting to record heavy rain. Hulikal, Madikeri, Munnar, Anakayam have recorded moderate to heavy spells of rain on Friday with things improving on Saturday, as the low pressure moved inland making its journey across the northern parts of Peninsular India.
Below average, says weather blogger
“In a news which is likely to bring a lot of cheer, the West Coast has started waking up from its mid-season slumber as south west monsoon is set for a revival under the influence of the low-pressure area that has formed in the Bay of Bengal,” said K Srikanth, a weather blogger.
“While the revival is not likely to bring active monsoon conditions immediately, the current spell of dry weather is likely to be broken. Since July 31 is the core monsoon zone, standardised rainfall chart is below average bringing the overall monsoon average to -5.1%,” he added.
