Heavy rains submerge Mumbai, MET department warns of extreme weather conditions

The heavy and continuous downpour during the weekday has brought traffic to a standstill at many places.

Heavy downpour since Saturday morning is flooding many parts of Mumbai and the regional Meteorological Centre, Colaba predicted that the situation will prevail for next 24 hours.

Reports say that the city received 65mm of rainfall in mere 3 hours of time, the automatic weather stations recorded the rainfall between August 27 at 8 am and August 28 at 8 am to be 102 mm. As for the regional rainfall measure, rain in Worli was 63.75 mm, Byculla 78.21 mm, Bhandup, 90.63 mm and Vikhroli, 111.96 mm. Between 8.30 am to 2.30 pm Monday, the regional Meteorological Centre, Colaba recorded 35.8 mm and the one at Santacruz recorded 28.6 mm of rain.

MET department has warned of extreme weather conditions for the coming week, high tides are expected by evening.

Currently apart from vehicular traffic, three local train lines have been affected completely and more is feared. Instances of railway lines getting submerged, water logging at busy roads and traffic redirection is current scenario in the city.

Though the entire state is receiving a considerable amount of rainfall now, Mumbai is completely on red alert.

The public started posting their experiences on social media in the form of tweets pictures and videos.
