Security forces extended search operation to more areas on Wednesday in north Kashmir district of Bandipora, where internet service has been suspended and educational institutions closed as a precautionary measure.

Official sources said that on a tip-off about the presence of militants, security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation in some areas in Hajin in Bandipora district of north Kashmir.

Security forces sealed all exit points and closed all roads. Residents were directed to remain indoor. A large number of security forces have also been deployed outside the cordoned off areas to prevent any law and order problem.

Later, additional security forces were rushed from Baramulla, Srinagar and Ganderbal camps to extend the operation to move areas, including Sumbal and Naidkhai.

Locals told UNI over phone that announcements were being made through public address system from mosques that restrictions under Section 144 CrPC have been imposed.

They said only those having any medical emergency were being allowed to leave the cordoned off area only after their checking identity cards and frisking. Locals said two youths were picked up for questioning during the operation which was still going on when the reports last came in.

Educational institutions in the cordoned off areas remained closed.

Meanwhile, locals alleged that mobile internet service has been suspended in these areas since last night to prevent spread of any rumours.

Official source said that security forces have conducted a number of search operation in Hajin, looking for the killers of Border Security Force (BSF) jawan Mohammad Ramzan Parray, who was killed by militants in his house. Parray, who was posted in Rajasthan was on leave when the incident took place late last month.
