Encounter ensues in north Kashmir

They said security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint operation following a tip off about the presence of militants at Mir Mohalla, Hajin in Baramulla district.

However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular area in the Mohalla, the militants resorted to indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons.  Security forces also retaliated, ensuing an encounter.

Sources said that two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants are hiding in the area. The operation was going on when the reports last came in, they said.

Additional security forces have been rushed to prevent any law and order problem outside the cordoned off area.
