Rail service resumes in north Kashmir

Rail service resumed on Wednesday morning after remaining suspended for a day due to security reasons in north Kashmir, where two local militants of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) were killed in an encounter with security forces on Monday evening.

However, train run from Badgam-Srinagar in the central Kashmir to Anantnag and Qazigund in south to Banihal in Jammu region was not affected and all trains operated normally on Tuesday.

He said train service resumed on Srinagar-Badgam to Baramulla in north Kashmir, a senior railway official told UNI.

He said an advisory was received from police on Monday night to suspend rail service in north Kashmir. Similarly, fresh directions were received to resume train service on Wednesday, he said, adding that, "We are acting on the advice of civil and police authorities."

Among two HM militants killed in Handwara area of north Kashmir district of Kupwara, one was resident of Sopore and another Palhalan Pattan in Baramulla district.
