Opposition almost conceded defeat in civic polls: UP CM Yogi Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday claimed that opposition parties have almost accepted their defeat in the state civic polls and only BJP can provide better urban facilities to the citizens.

"BJP is set to repeat the feat of the 2017 Assembly polls as people are supporting the party candidates in the entire state," he said.

The Chief Minister was speaking to media after casting his vote at the primary girls school polling booth near Gorakhnath temple. Mr Adityanath was among the first VVIPs in the state to cast his vote after the polling started at 07:30 hrs.

"The opposition stands nowhere in these elections and have almost given walkover to BJP. The poll trends are in favour of the BJP candidates", the Chief Minister said, and ensured people that the party was committed to uplift of basic infrastructure in the urban areas.

"We will strengthen the local bodies and focus on solving problems of the street vendors and run anti-encroachment drive to end traffic snarls," he said, adding that the schemes like Smart Cities Mission, AMRUIT and Deen Dayal Upadhyay will end the miseries of the urban population. He also said that the local bodies would be made more powerful.

He would be campaigning in Allahabad and Varanasi today where polling for the civic polls are scheduled in  on November 26 and 29. Counting of votes of all the three phases would be taken up on December 1.
