The Chief Minister had initiated the festival marking the growth of the agriculture sector in the state. Initially, it used to take place at Lalbaba Ashram Ground in Panagarh. It was in 2016 that Mati Tirtha, a permanent venue, was set up near Kalna Road.
The preparation for the festival had started in December. Thousands of people visit Mati Tirtha during the event.
There are stalls of the Agriculture Department and its allied departments where farmers would get to know about different modern techniques of farming. There will also be a separate arena where they can discuss the problems they usually face in farming with experts. The step has been taken so that after getting to know about the problems, concerned officials of the departments can revert promptly with remedies.
Besides felicitating the farmers, there are certain new components at the Mati Utsav this year.
It may be mentioned that the Trinamool Congress Government has taken several steps for the benefit of farmers over the past six years to ensure that they incur profit. The average annual income of farmers has doubled, compared to six years ago.
