16 get life imprisonment in murder case

A total of 16 villagers from Umbardegaon of Kalyan in the district, who were found guilty in 2012 murder case were awarded life imprisonment on Wednesday by the district court.

The accused and the complainants and the deceased were all interrelated with each other.

The additional sessions judge, NM Waghmare observed that the prosecution has proved beyond all doubts all the charges against the accused who deserve to be convicted and sentenced.

The accused were tried for offences punishable under sections 302,143,147,148,149,120B and 201 of the IPC.

The prosecutor told the court that all the accused had hatched a conspiracy to eliminate the victim and thus accomplished the task on the fateful day.

On October 03, 2012, around 06:30 hours when the victim Vikas patil was opening the door of a liquor bar, the accused came in two jeeps fully armed with gupti, sword and chopper etc and killed him.

The motive behind the murder was a long standing dispute between the families of the victim and the accused over the landed property since several years.

The accused who were tried and convicted include Kaka Shankar Patil, Sandeep Kaka Patil, Anil Kaka Patil, Kabir Lahu Karbhari, Sanjay Lahu Karbhari, Ramesh Yashwant Patil, Bhagwant Yashwant Patil, Yashwant Baliram Patil, Baliram Gajanan Patil, Pradeep Baliram Patil, Sharad Baliram Patil, Bharat Baliram Patil, Madhukar Ramchandra Patil and Ransul Chandrakant Patil.
