Kerala hikes salary of Ministers, MLAs

Kerala Government has decided to hike the salary of MLAs and ministers in the State.

Sources said the salary reforms bill for the legislators will be introduced in the current session of the Assembly. The Minister's salary will be increased to Rs 90,300 from Rs 50,000 and the MLAs to Rs 62,000 from Rs 39,000.

The proposal which got the Cabinet nod for the hike was proposed by the parliamentary affairs department. The salary reforms bills was formulated on the basis of recommendations by the James Commission Report appointed by the Assembly Speaker. 

However, the proposal for a steep hike in the salary and perks was not accepted by the Government.

Though the commission recommended a hike to Rs 1.37 lakh for ministers, the Cabinet fixed it as Rs 90,000, it added.
