Protest against triple talaq bill

Several women today, on the appeal of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), staged protests against the anti triple-talaq bill here.

Senior member of the board, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali, claimed that on the appeal of the AIMPLB, hundreds of Muslim women today gathered at the Teele Waali Masjid here and staged protests against the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill.

"The protesting women said interference in Shariat in the garb of curbing anti triple-talaq is simply not acceptable. If this bill becomes a law, it will result in more problems for the Muslim women," Mahali claimed.

After protests for nearly three hours, a memorandum addressed to the President by the was handed over to the district administration by the protesting women.

Meanwhile, chairperson of the All India Muslim Women Personal Law Board (AIMWPLB) Shaista Amber said that protestors had been brought after misleading them.
