Acting on a tip-off, NCB sleuths on Thursday night intercepted a truck loaded with around 600 kg of ganja near Narmada Chokdi in Bharuch city, around 200km from here, NCB director for Ahmedabad zone Hariom Gandhi told mediapersons here.

The consignment was being transported to Gujarat from Odisha and was meant to be supplied to wholesalers in different parts of the state, Gandhi said.

Initially, two persons carrying the consignment were arrested. They were identified as Pramod Kumar and Sheesh Pal, both residents of Uttar Pradesh, he said.

The arrested persons included a woman.

Based on the information provided by them, two receivers from Surat and Bharuch, identified as Kamal Locha and Manish Parmar, respectively, were arrested the same night when they arrived on a two-wheeler at a given spot to collect their consignment of the contraband, Gandhi said.

Yesterday, two more receivers arrived from Ahmedabad in a car to receive the consignment. One of them, however, managed to flee, while the other, a woman, was nabbed, the official said.

"The seized ganja would cost around Rs 2 crore in the local market when sold in retail," Gandhi said.
