Pondy yoga event to set record

Chief Minister V Narayanasamy on Wednesday inaugurated a mega yoga event, which is aimed at creating a Guinness record.

To mark the International Yoga Day, the Kancheepuram-based Mahayogam is organizing a 36-hour long yoga session here in which 121 women are participating.

Cabinet Colleagues of Narayanasamy, legislator Anbazhagan and former legislator Vaidyanathan participated in the inaugural function held at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor stadium here. The yoga event, which began at 7 am on Wednesday will conclude at 7 pm on Thursday.

Lt Governor Kiran Bedi will take part in the closing ceremony. Senior Superintendent of police Apoorva Gupta and Superintendent of police Rachana Singh would also take part in the closing ceremony.

In a related development, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries along with Lt Governor Kiran Bedi will participate in the inaugural ceremony of National Seminar-cum-CME on Yoga to be held at JPIMER on Thursday. According to a release from the JIPMER issued on Wednesday, the programme was being conducted to mark the fourth International Yoga Day Celebration.

JIPMER Director Dr Vivekanandam will preside over the inaugural function in which more than 300 delegates from different parts of the country will participate. The Yoga National Seminar will focus on different health benefits of Yoga.
