“The quantum of water which had been there in the tribunal award after adjusting whatever had been the surplus in the month of June that would be released by Karnataka,” Hussain told reporters.
He said the meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere with a “spirit of cooperation.” Representatives of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Puducherry attended the meeting.
The chairman said that at the meeting, Karnataka was urged to release water from Cauvery according to the Supreme Court ruling and it was decided that the existing arrangement for the supply of water to Puducherry by Tamil Nadu would continue.
The authority also considered requesting the Central Water Commission to submit proposal for setting up communication network to assess hydrological conditions, Hussain said, adding the meeting also addressed the authority’s budget and the issue of setting up of a permanent office for the authority.
Acting on the Supreme Court’s direction, the Centre on June 1 constituted the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) for sharing Cauvery water.
Given clear instructions to representatives, says EPS
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami while replying to Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Assembly on Monday said the Supreme Court verdict would be in practice for the next 15 years.
The apex court had ordered the release of 177.25 tmc and there is no change in it. The judgment had clearly given the monthly quota to be release to the state. The authority and committee would meet every 10 days, analyse the water storage and order water release, he said.
“I have called a meeting of our representatives, senior ministers besides ministers from the delta districts, higher officials and government advocates who are going to take part in the CWMA meeting. I instructed them how to function at the meeting.”
The Supreme Court verdict is clear and it had also clearly stated about the functioning of CWMA, he said.
