Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Prime MinisterUnited Arab Emirates, on Saturday took to Twitter to express his support for the people ofKerala.

He stated, "The people of Kerala have always been andare still part of our success story in the UAE. We have a specialresponsibility to help and support those affected, especially during this holyand blessed days".

Heavy rains have been lashing the state since August 9,rendering lakhs homeless, destroying property worth millions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced Rs 500crore financial assistance for flood-ravaged Kerala.

Modi also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to thenext of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to those seriously injured from thePrime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
