It may be noted that former AIADMK legislator Om Sakthi Sekher has represented to the president that the Congress and DMK legislators are holding office of profit and hence, they be disqualified.

The president on September 2, 2017 sought the views from the Election Commission of India and the commission in turn sought an explanation from the eight legislators on. The legislators submitted their explanation to the ECI on 12-7-2018 which was not acceptable to the commission.

The ECI once again sent a notice to the legislators seeking a more clear clarifications from them and to appear before the commission, failing which action will be initiated against the eight legislators without any prior intimation.

Sekhar told news persons that as the original complainant, the ECI had intimated him about the steps taken by it on his complaint to the president. Since, the explanation of the legislators are not acceptable to the commission, soon they will be disqualified, which will lead to the fall of Narayansamy government.
