Pondy CM Narayanasamy visits rain-hit pockets for spot study

Later in an informal chat with mediapersons, Narayanasamy said the file to declare November 5, the Deepavali eve as a public holiday in the Union territory has been forwarded to the Union Home Ministry and public holiday will be declared after getting nod from the Home Ministry.

Meanwhile, with the successful completion of the de-silting of 23 channels in Rural areas of Puducherry well before the onset of the North-East monsoon, L-G Kiran Bedi is now concentrating on the de-silting of urban canals to prevent inundation of several low-lying areas here.

She held a meeting with donors on Friday, who agreed to adopt four channels at a cost of Rs 6 to 7 lakh each.

Resident Welfare associations, traders association and Indian Oil Corporation are among the donors who came forward to sponsor the de-silting work of the urban channels.

The Lt Governor in a Whatsapp message said that if de-silting is not done, the poor people in low-lying areas would suffer and later the government will have to provide them with flood relief.

Meanwhile, hailing the work carried out by the Lt Governor, the Tank Association members in their meeting resolved to support her and called upon the people and the Congress government to follow suit in her endeavor.
