A rescue team headed by Station House Officer (SHO) and truckers and passengers had a narrow escape when a couple of landslides hit Zojilla pass area on Wednesday evening, official sources said here on Thursday.

They said a police team headed by SHO Sonamarg Manzoor Ahmad had gone to rescue stranded vehicles at Zojilla when a couple of avalanches hit the area following fresh heavy snowfall last evening.

All members of the rescue team, including from police, traffic police and BEACON besides stranded truckers and passengers escaped unhurt.

Later, they rescued the some stranded vehicles from the spot, sources said.

Large number of vehicles, including trucks and oil tankers besides those carrying passengers, got stranded on both sides of the Srinagar-Leh national highway since Monday following snowfall and slippery road conditions.

Traffic on the national highway, connecting Ladakh with Kashmir, remained suspended today also.
