Amid continuous demonstrations against Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) and turmoil over touching waist of sole lady minister Shantana Chakma by Sports Minister Manoj Kanti Deb, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today reiterated that being the head of the administration he is committed to secure peace and tranquillity in the state.

Talking to UNI he said there has been a continuous attempt to create disturbance by an opportunist group and were trying to misguide the common people. The motivated campaign against the government has been resorted to divert the attention of the people from the development activities being undertaken by BJP-IPFT government, he commented.

"Whatever attempt is made against the government we shall not allow them to succeed. Since people of the state voted us to power, we are committed to fulfill their wishes and the commitments we made before the election with the blessing and support of the people," Deb said.

Yet, he did not make any specific reference of his statement but indicated that the movement of tribal opposition parties against citizenship amendment bill has hostile the environment in hills. According to report, in Prime Minister's rally in last week the presence of tribal was marginal because there was warning from certain quarter to the vehicle owners not to provide transport to bring people.

A section of BJP's partner in the government IPFT is also not happy with the government.

Meantime, there is an adverse impact among the tribal due to the campaign of opposition CPI (M) on Manoj-Shantana issue. The BJP however, had preferred not to react on the opposition but when CPI (M) held rally, Shantana herself had to hold the press conference and reacted sharply to go for legal action against those who propagate it.

The whole episode made the government embarrassed and put Shantana in distress.
