Puducherry
The main contest in the election is between the Congress and N R Congress in the Lok Sabha and between the N R Congress and DMK in Thattanchavady. Only these two fronts were engaged in hectic electioneering here.
The Union Territory of Puducherry is having a peculiar geographical feature with four regions lying in different areas. While, Puducherry and Karaikal regions are near Tamil Nadu, Mahe is near Kerala and Yanam near Andhra Pradesh.
Puducherrians are considered to be people with national thinking and once, it was considered the fort of the Congress party. But gradually, the stance changed, thanks to the migrated people and in the last election held in 2014, the N R Congress, a split away group from the congress won the Lok Sabha seat.
The N R Congress is contesting this election to retain both the Lok Sabha and Thattanchavady assembly seat while, Congress is doing everything to wrest the Lok Sabha seat from the N R Congress while the DMK in alliance with Congress is also making efforts to capture the assembly seat from N R Congress.
