Yashwant Sinha campaigns against Rajnath Singh in Lucknow: calls him 'weak' leader

Former Union Finance minister Yashwant Sinha on Wednesday slammed the Narendra Modi government for its failure on all counts and claimed that Union minister Rajnath Singh, contesting from Lucknow Lok Sabha seat, is a now weak leader.

"Though I have a good relationship with Rajnath Singh as he has been the president of BJP twice and a minister with me in the Atal Bihar Vajpayee government, but in today's scenario, he is a weak leader even after being the Union Home minister. I don't think he is capable of winning these elections," he said.

Sinha, who is in Lucknow to campaign for SP candidate Poonam Sinha, wife of Bollywood actor Shatrughan Sinha, who is pitted against Singh, told reporters here on Wednesday that the Modi government was skipping all the relevant issues of the people and was trying to confuse the voters on different agenda.

"Demonetisation was the biggest scam of the country in which Rs 3 lakh crore were siphoned off but the government was silent on the matter. The entire government and the party leaders were involved in the scam. I would like to say that a new government should probe the matter and punish those involved in the scam," he said.

Talking about the GST, he claimed that it has ruined the entire economy of the country and created unemployment. ''The government is presenting a wrong figure of economy to cover up their lapses. A new government will correct these figures," he said.

Sinha also hit out at the Election Commission for its laxity on the BJP leaders. "Now EC has turned into an Election Commission of Modi", he commented.

The rebel BJP leader also criticised fielding of Prayga Thakur in the Lok Sabha elections. "Fielding an accused involved in terror act is not acceptable in politics. But I think BJP has done this just to divide the society on communal lines," he said.
