Pondicherry election results to be released a day late: Election offcial

A mock vote counting session for the Pondicherry parliamentary elections and the Thattanchavady mid elections took place at the office of the election official yesterday. This was headed by the district election commissioner and collector, Arun.

He later stated that the election commission has ordered that the voting slips at all five VVPAT machines be counted. Owing to this, vote slips from a total number of 155 VVPAT machines at 30 constituencies and the constituency for Thanttanchavady assembly mid elections will be counted on the 23rd of this month.

“It takes about an hour and a half to count the votes from one VVPAT machine. Going by this, it would take around 25 hours to release the official results of the elections. Hence, the results can only be declared at around 8 or 9 AM on the 24th. That being said, the results of the Thanttanchavady mid elections will be declared in the afternoon of the 23rd”, he said.
