Flight AI 191 to Newark International Airport, near New York, took off from Mumbai International Airport on Thursday morning but had to make an emergency landing.

British fighter jets escorted the Air India flight to Stansted the UK Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
Typhoon aircraft were authorised to travel at supersonic speeds to escort the flight, it said.
