CJI's office under RTI Act, but conditions apply: SC in landmark judgment

The Supreme Court on Wednesday has held that office of the Chief Justice of India comes under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
While upholding the Delhi High Court’s judgement, the Supreme Court said, "Transparency doesn’t undermine judicial independency."
After petitions were filed challenging the Delhi High Court’s order, the apex court pronounced the landmark judgement. The SC bench was headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, who retires on November 17. Other members of the bench included Justices N V Ramana, D Y Chandrachud, Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Khanna.
