In his first press conference after taking over as Army chief, Gen Naravane also said that the Army will remain very vigilant at the Siachen glacier as there was a possibility of collusion between China and Pakistan against India in the strategically sensitive area.
‘‘As far as PoK is concerned, many years ago there was a parliamentary resolution on it that entire J&K is part of India. If Parliament wants the area to belong to us and if we get orders, then definitely we will take action on it,’’ the Army Chief said.
Naravane also said, ‘‘We will have to train for future wars which will be network centric and complex. For us short term threat is counter insurgency operations, and long term threat is conventional wars and that is what we are preparing for.’’
Cong declines to comment
The Congress refused to get into a debate over Naravane's statement on PoK. Congress leaders Anand Sharma and Randeep Singh Surjewala told at a media briefing, ‘‘We don’t ever bring in the Army chief. Both Houses of Parliament have passed unanimous resolutions unequivocally declaring PoK an integral part of India,’’ they said.
