MPs seek repatriation of stranded fishers from iran
Parliament Members from Tamil Nadu belonging to various parties on Thursday made a strong demand for repatriation of nearly 1,000 fishermen from the state stranded in Iran, one of the worst-affected countries by the coronavirus epidemic.

They raised the issue during a brief discussion on COVID-19 after Health Minister Harsh Vardhan made a statement in both the Houses of Parliament.
In the Rajya Sabha, AIADMK member Vijila Satyanand and Vaiko (MDMK) raised the issue of the plight of the fishermen from Kanniyakumari and Tirunelveli districts in Iran and demanded immediate steps by the External Affairs Ministry to bring them back safely.
Tiruchy Siva suggested that air carriers supply masks to passengers because there are a number of international flights which operate domesticallyalso in part.
In the Lok Sabha, DMK member Kanimozhi said there was only one National Institute of Virology in Pune and wanted that such institutes should be set up in different zones of the country. In fact, the government was well forewarned about the outbreak of the disease and it could have taken that step bynow, she said.
Kanimozhi also expressed her opinion against setting up of quarantine facilities in crowded hospitals in cities and towns. Preferably they should be set up near airports, she said.
