PANAJI: The Congress in Goa has condemned the act of Goa government for allegedly not including a photograph of first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on official advertisement of Independence Day.

"It is most unfortunate that the official advertisement issued by the government of Goa has deliberately not included the photograph of first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. We strongly condemn this act of the divisive BJP," said Congress' Goa unit president Amit Patkar.

"Pramod Sawant should watch the video of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praising Pandit Nehru and should read History books to understand the contribution of Pandit Nehru," Patkar said.

"I want to tell the Chief Minister about the contributions of Jawaharlal Nehru as well as other Prime Ministers like Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi are reflected in the advertisement issued by the Congress party today to commemorate 75 years of Independence. The BJP government cannot erase the achievements of the nation with its divisive politics," Patkar said.

"The Congress party is proud to have our great leaders' photographs holding Tiranga. We have documentary proof to show to the next generation about our leaders' contribution in nation building. It is sad that since BJP has nothing to show about their contributions, they are compelled to organise 'Silent March' to observe 'Horror of Partition'. This reflects the negativity of the BJP," he said.

He said that the BJP government has no right to use funds from the state treasury to push forward their own agenda using state's machinery.
