Chennai man booked under Pocso for attempting to sexually abuse Class 10 girl

The girl had returned home from school when the accused barged into the house. He is a neighbour and was aware that the girl's parents were away at work, police said.

CHENNAI: A 42-year-old man was arrested under the Pocso Act for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a Class 10 girl when she was alone at her house in Ayanavaram on Tuesday evening.

The girl had returned home from school when the accused barged into the house. He is a neighbour and was aware that the girl's parents were away at work, police said.

The accused allegedly tried to sexually abuse her, but the girl raised alarm after which the man fled from the scene. Hearing her cries, other neighbours rushed to her aid and stayed with the girl until her parents reached home.

After being informed about the incident, her parents rushed home and later filed a police complaint against the man. After investigations, officials at Ayanavaram All Women Police Station (AWPS) registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and arrested the accused, Sivakumar. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
