CHENNAI: A passenger from Paris, who tried to fly to Bengaluru with a GPS device, was detained and handed over to the police on Thursday.

The security officers were checking the passengers who were about to board the IndiGo Airlines flight to Bangalore on Thursday night. While scanning the belongings of Bernard (62) of Paris, the officers found he had a GPS device with him.

During the inquiry, Bernard said that he arrived in Chennai three days ago via Delhi from Nepal. He said GPS devices were allowed on flights in his country. He further mentioned that during security checks at the airports in Nepal and Delhi, the device had not been flagged.

However, as carrying the device on flights is not allowed in India, the officers seized the device and handed over Bernard to the airport police station.

The airport police are questioning Bernard and are investigating his background.
