Seized hydroponic ganja

CHENNAI: Customs officials at Chennai airport seized hydroponic ganja worth Rs 3.5 crore on Thursday.

While checking the passengers who arrived from Thailand on Wednesday night, the officials grew suspicious about a 35-year-old male passenger from Chennai who was returning after a visit to Thailand on a tourist visa. When they intercepted the man and questioned him, the man was evasive and nervous in his replies.

After their suspicions grew, they searched his baggage and found seven packages inside his baggage, which contained hydroponic ganja, a much more potent version of the narcotic. The customs recovered and seized 3.5 kg of ganja, which is estimated to have a street value of Rs 3.5 crore. The passenger was arrested and further investigation is on.

It may be noted that on Tuesday, the Customs officials seized hydroponic ganja worth Rs six crore from a woman who arrived from Thailand and arrested her. In two days, hydroponic ganja worth Rs 9.5 crore was seized at the Chennai airport and two passengers were arrested.
