IIT-M unveils India’s first Hyperloop test track in Chennai
The completion of the test track paves the way for further testing, refinement and commercialisation of Hyperloop technology in India.
CHENNAI: India's maiden Hyperloop test track was launched at IIT-Madras Discovery Campus, marking a significant milestone in the country's pursuit of cutting-edge transportation solutions.
The 410-metre track, jointly developed by the Indian Railways, ArcelorMittal, IIT-M students-led Avishkar Hyperloop team and TuTr, a student-led start-up, will facilitate testing and refinement of the Hyperloop technology.
Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw hailed the achievement, stating, "This milestone marks the beginning of a new era in transportation, showcasing India's commitment to innovation."
The Avishkar Hyperloop team aims to design and build India's first indigenous Hyperloop system, connecting major cities and reducing travel time significantly.
According to the Avishkar Hyperloop team, the proposed Hyperloop network will revolutionise transportation in India, with the Chennai-Bengaluru travel route reduced to just 15 minutes.
Operating on magnetic levitation within low-pressure tubes, the Hyperloop offers a sustainable, energy-efficient transportation solution, aligning with India's carbon neutrality goals.
The completion of the test track paves the way for further testing, refinement and commercialisation of Hyperloop technology in India.
The Hyperloop system promises to transform India's transportation landscape, enhancing connectivity, fostering economic growth and providing environmental benefits.
