IPL 2025: 11 booked in Chennai for selling CSK vs MI match tickets in black market

CHENNAI: Police arrested as many as eleven persons for attempting to sell IPL match tickets at overpriced rates on Sunday ahead of the match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

The Triplicane police arrested nine people, while the Chintadripet police apprehended two others involved in black market ticket sales.

Police seized 31 tickets and Rs 53,000 in cash from the arrested persons. Police investigations revealed that some of the tickets priced at Rs 3,000 were being sold for Rs 10,000 while tickets worth Rs 7,500 were sold for as much as Rs 25,000.

Police said that while many tickets are sold through social media platforms, some of them even sell tickets near the Chepauk stadium.

Police have urged the public to be cautious when purchasing tickets and to report any incidents of illegal sales of IPL tickets.

Apart from focusing on sales of match tickets in the black market, in a move to enhance spectator safety during Indian Premier League (IPL) matches, the Greater Chennai Police has launched the 'Chennai Singam IPL QR Code' system.

This new feature will allow fans to instantly report security concerns to the police. The initiative aims to improve crowd management and provide real-time assistance for emergencies as thousands are expected to flock to the Stadium on match days.
