Ma Subramanian, six others found not guilty in 2002 GCC council members attack case
The special court constituted to hear cases related to MPs/MLAs acquitted all the accused including the minister as the prosecution failed to establish case beyond doubt.
CHENNAI: A special court in Chennai acquitted minister Ma Subramanian and 6 others in a case registered in 2002, on the charge of attacking and threatening Chennai corporation council members in the council meet.
On Friday, the special court constituted to hear cases related to MPs/MLAs acquitted all the accused including the minister as the prosecution failed to establish case beyond doubt.
In 2002, the then deputy mayor Karate R Thiagarajan of the Chennai Corporation convened a council meet . Ma Subramanian took part in the council meet as a council member.
During the meet, Subramanian and some other DMK members raised issue regarding the tender floated for a fish market at Kannappar Thidal.
This created a chaos between DMK and AIADMK council members, which led into physical altercation, chairs and mics were thrown against each other, leaving several council members injured.
Based on the complaint lodged by AIADMK council members Periamet police registered case against Ma Subramanian and other DMK members under sections 147, 324 , 341 of IPC and section 3 of Tamil Nadu Public Property ( Prevention of Damage & Loss) Act, 1992.
After conducting the investigation the police filed charge sheet against the minister in 2020.
In March 2020, the special court took cognizance of the case and heard all the parties. After hearing the case at full length the special court acquitted all the accused persons.
