CHENNAI: A 29-year-old postgraduate student of Madras Medical College was found dead inside his hostel room inside the Government Omandurar Multi Super Speciality Hospital campus on Wednesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Dr Aravind, a native of Virudhunagar district. He was sharing the hostel room with another PG student. On Tuesday, Aravind attended classes and duty, and retired to his room after dinner, police investigations revealed.

When his roommate, Dr Marimuthu, reached the room and knocked on the door several times, Aravind did not open the room. After that, Marimuthu slept in a friend's room.

On Wednesday morning, Marimuthu knocked on the doors again. As there was no response, he broke open the door with the help of other students. Inside, they found Aravind lying unconscious with a syringe next to him. The other doctors rushed him to the emergency room and tried to resuscitate him, but he was dead, police said.

The Triplicane police recovered his body and moved him to a government hospital for post-mortem examination. Officials said they suspect Dr Arvind to have taken his own life by administering a lethal injection. Further investigations are on.
