CHENNAI: Valasaravakkam police recovered the decomposed body of a man from an abandoned luxury car within their jurisdiction on Monday.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the deceased is a platform dweller in the neighbourhood, but his identity remains to be ascertained.
According to the police, the expensive car, registered in Puducherry, has been parked on Rajagopalan Street for a few days now.
A passerby noticed the dead man inside the vehicle after a foul smell emanated and alerted the police. Following this, a team headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Sembedu Babu recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.
Police sources said that there was also a liquor bottle and plastic cups on the floor of the car. Police are awaiting post-mortem reports to ascertain the cause of the man’s death.
“We are trying to identify the ownership of the car. There is a used car garage a few streets away from where the car was parked. We are enquiring if any of the clients had parked their car there due to lack of space in the garage” a police officer said. Further investigations are on.
