One of 5 Bengal migrant workers who fainted at Chennai Central railway station undergoes dialysis, remains under observation

Though his health condition is not critical, the hospital authorities say that he needed additional cycles of dialysis and is kept under observation at the hospital.

CHENNAI: One of the migrant workers from West Bengal, Sathya Pandit, who had fainted at MGR Chennai Central Railway Station due to starvation remains under treatment at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH).

Though his health condition is not critical, the hospital authorities say that he needed additional cycles of dialysis and is kept under observation at the hospital.

So far, no family members or attendants of the patient have come to the hospital and caregivers arranged by the hospital authorities are taking care of him.

He was suffering from severe dehydration and diarrhoea when admitted to the hospital. He is recovering gradually but required monitoring

Meanwhile, the mortal remains of Samar Khan, another migrant worker who passed away at RGGGH due to renal failure were sent to West Bengal on Wednesday.

All the other migrant workers have also returned to their State after being kept in the Corporation shelter home for a few days.

Five migrant workers had fainted at the MGR Chennai Central station on September 16, due to starvation and were admitted to RGGGH.

Three of them have been discharged and have returned home.

The other migrant workers who were provided shelter at a Corporation shelter home have also returned back to West Bengal.

They had come to Chennai in a group of 12 workers in search of agricultural work.

The workers did not find any employment opportunities in Chennai upon arrival and remained at the railway station for a few days.

They did not have the money to return back or to be able to afford food.
