CHENNAI: A year-old boy was among three people who were killed in an accident in Singaperumal Koil on Tuesday when a lorry rammed into a family’s car.
Karthick (35) of Janaki Nagar in Madurai with his wife Nandhini (30), daughter Elamathi (7), son Sai Velan (1) and his in-laws Ayyanar (65) and Deiva Poonchery (60) and driver Saravanan (35) visited Chennai in their car to attend a relative’s wedding on Sunday.
In the late hours of Monday, the family was on their way back to Madurai after the wedding ceremony.
The car was waiting at a signal in Tirutheri Junction near Singaperumal Koil behind a container lorry. Another tipper lorry, speeding towards Chengalpattu, rammed into the car, prompting it to collide with the container lorry.
The car was crushed between the two lorries, killing Saravanan and Ayyanar on impact and critically injuring the toddler. The Guduvanchery Traffic Investigation Wing police rushed to the spot on information to rescue the severely injured family members and sent them to Chengalpattu GH, where Sai Velan died without responding to any treatment.
Following the incident, traffic on the National Highway was affected on the National Highway for more than two hours. The Guduvanchery TIW police registered a case. Further investigation is under way.
