CHENNAI: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Friday passed 17 resolutions in its first-ever general council meeting which saw the attendance of over 2,000 members in Thiruvanmiyur.

One of the key resolutions passed by the TVK was a vehement demand for the Union government to withdraw the Waqf Amendment Bill, contending that the bill, ostensibly introduced to ensure transparent management of Waqf properties, would in reality deprive Muslims of their rights.

The party also expressed support for the two-language policy while criticising the Centre's alleged imposition of a three-language policy. In another resolution, it condemned the proposed delimitation exercise, arguing that the current count of parliamentary seats must remain unchanged to ensure South Indian states did not lose representation.

It also focused on tackling alleged corruption in the state-run liquor retailer Tasmac with reference to the recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation, and also addressing concerns over law and order in the State.

In other resolutions, the TVK brought up its opposition to the Parandur airport construction again and also urged the Centre to find a lasting solution for the Tamil Nadu fishermen who have faced relentless attacks and killings by the Sri Lankan Navy over the past four decades.
