CHENNAI: Governor RN Ravi on Tuesday informed that steps are being taken to introduce a diploma course in Tamil at the Gauhati University in Assam.

Delivering a keynote address at a national seminar and award ceremony organised by at the Hindi Sahitya Academy in the State in Arumbakkam, Ravi highlighted Mahakavi Bharathiar’s verses “Seppu Mozhi Pathinettudayaal Enil Chinthanai Ondrudayal” and emphasised India’s spiritual and cultural unity.

Lauding the ancient Tamil language for its beauty and power, Ravi termed it as ‘mother’. “Tamil is a sweet language. It should be taken all over the world. I have contacted the Gauhati University in Assam and urged them to start a Tamil Diploma course at their university. I have been learning Tamil for the past three years. I have just begun, there is a long way to go,” he said.

Commending the rule of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ravi said India has become an inevitable power in the world as the most important global decisions have had the ink of Bharat in the last ten years. “All eyes are on India today. Many countries took lessons from us on how to fix their economy and administration,” he said. There are around 1,25,000 startup firms, proving the nation’s economic strengths, he said. “Over 20 per cent of them are unicorn firms and more than 25 crore people have come out of poverty in the last 10 years,” the Governor added.

Ravi further stressed the importance of “Nari Shakti” and encouraged the youth to excel in their fields with a vision of contributing to a strong and self-reliant India, while upholding the Sanatan Sanskriti of ‘Yathum oore Yaavarum Kaelir’ for a peaceful, equitable and inclusive world.
