CHENNAI: A 14-year-old boy performing a Karate stunt during Actor-Politician Vijay's 50th birthday celebrations in Neelankarai had a close shave after his hand caught fire while breaking tiles. The boy suffered minor burn injuries.

The injured boy is a class 7 student at a private school. The parents preferred to not file a police complaint. Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam President Vijay had asked the party functionaries to not go ahead with the birthday celebrations in the wake of the hooch tragedy in Kallakurichi. However, the birthday celebrations went ahead at several places across the state.

The video clip of the boy's forearm catching fire went viral. However, the boy spoke to media persons after treatment at a hospital and said that he is fine. "There was an unexpected spark. These things happen during performances. I will come back, " the boy told mediapersons.

The boy's mother too said that such accidents happen and they did not expect the issue to blow up. "My son is fine. We came out of our own volition for the event, " she said.
