CHENNAI: Tamil actor Daniel Balaji died of a heart attack on Friday (March 29) evening at a private hospital in Chennai.

He was 48 years old. His body has been taken to his residence in Purasaiwalkam for final rites.

Daniel's sudden passing came as a huge shock to his fans and the Cinema industry.

Many Tamil actors, directors and producers are expected to pay last respects to him later today (March 30).

Daniel Balaji commenced his career as a unit production manager in Kamal Haasan's unfinished dream project, 'Marudhunayagam'. Daniel Balaji started his career in television and his first on screen character Daniel in Chitthi became his moniker.

Balaji debuted in films with SS Stanley’s April Maadhathil (2004). Apart from Tamil films, he starred in several Malayalam, Telugu, and Kannada movies has been a part of 42 films including Polladhavan, Bairava and Vada Chennai till date.

Daniel Balaji made his first presence on screen played a notable role in Radikaa Sarathkumar's 'Chithhi',in the popular Tamil daily soap opera where his character was named Daniel earning him the screen name, Daniel Balaji.

Kaakha Kaakha- Srikanth IPS

Daniel Balaji's first major role was in GVM's Kaakha Kaakha as Srikanth IPS alongside Suriya. He played the role of a cop to perfection and rose to fame instantly.

Vettaiyaadu Vilayaadu- Amudhan Sukumaran

It's in this Gautam Menon's film where Balaji gave his career- best performance as a villain pitted against Kamal Haasan. His role is remembered as one of the iconic antagonist roles of Tamil cinema. This role opened several avenues for him and also made him amass a huge fan following.

Polladhavan- Ravi

Vetri Maaran’s Polladhavan, marks Daniel's first collaboration with the director where he portrayed as villain alongside Dhanush. His role of a goon from north Chennai impressed the audience.
