Buffalo drags woman for 500 metres in Chennai, attacks two others; video goes viral

The woman, identified as Madumathi (35), suffered injuries on her face, arms and legs, police sources said.

CHENNAI: In a harrowing incident in Tiruvottiyur, Chennai, a woman was dragged for around 500 metres by a buffalo along a road on Sunday, resulting in injuries.

The video of this incident from Grama street in Tiruvottiyur has gone viral.

The woman, identified as Madumathi (35), suffered injuries on her face, arms and legs, police sources said.

Two residents who rushed to the woman's rescue were attacked by the animal and suffered minor injuries.

She has reportedly been admitted in a hospital for treatment.

The buffalo has been caught and kept at the Chennai Corporation's cattle depot in Perambur for observation. So far, no one has claimed ownership of it.


The civic body had warned cattle owners of severe action if they allow the animals to stray on the roads posing dangers to the public.

1,117 stray cattle have been impounded by the Greater Chennai Corporation this year alone.
