CHENNAI: Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) commuters were sent into a tizzy once again this Wednesday owing to a repeating technical glitch on the blue line, causing service disruption between Meenambakkam and Airport Metro station in the wee hours.

As the glitch was serious to set right quickly, the CMRL announced that the direct Metro trains between Central Metro and Airport Metro stations were cancelled for Wednesday. Due to service disruption, passengers travelling to the airport via the green line were directed to inter-change at Arignar Anna Alandur Metro station. Almost about six hours later, the technical glitch was addressed. The service from Central Metro and the airport on the green line was finally resumed by Wednesday afternoon. A similar glitch was reported by CMRL last month, forcing passengers to opt for other transit services on that occasion. This one was also no better

Kamala, an IT professional said, “As I entered the station, I saw several people standing outside the station and booking cabs and autos. When enquired, many said the trains are not plying due to signalling issues. I was able to come back home and opt for Work From Home (WFH). But not all will have this privilege. With footfall increasing, CMRL should prepare for crisis management,” added Kamala.
