CHENNAI: The Greater Chennai City Police on Wednesday arrested a woman for allegedly murdering her husband, her third, by strangulating him with her thaali allegedly after he harassed her in an inebriated condition at their home in Triplicane on Tuesday night.

Police identified the deceased as Manivannan (28), a casual labourer, and said that he was the third husband of the accused, Nagammal (35), a conservancy staff with Chennai corporation.

On Tuesday night, the couple fought after Manivannan came home drunk despite her repeated appeals not to spend the money he earns as a daily wage on alcohol. In the argument that ensued, Nagammal strangled her husband, leading to his collapse. Alarmed, she informed her family members who rushed home and moved him to a hospital where Manivannan was declared as brought dead.

Doctors told police about strangulation marks on his neck, after which Triplicane police conducted investigations. Nagammal was arrested on murder charges. She was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
